Born in 1954, Kengo Kuma studied at the University of Tokyo, Department of Architecture, where he today serves as Distinguished Professor and leads the Kuma Lab Research Laboratory. Founding Kengo Kuma & Associates in 1990, his international practice proposes human-scaled concepts in relation with the local environment and culture. He designed the Japan National Stadium for the 2020 Summer Olympics, and the Suntory Museum of Art in Tokyo as an “urban living room”. He developed a concept of contemporary intervention for the Roman Cathedral of Angers. He has numerous publications and holds notable awards from Japan and abroad.
