Galina Balashova

Born in 1931, Galina Balashova is an architect and designer associated with the Soviet space programme. In 1957, she became senior architect at OKB-1, where she was involved in the interior design of the Soyuz spacecraft and the Salyut and Mir space stations. She was also a consultant for the Buran programme. Her work included the design of interior spaces, furniture and control panels as well as solutions for a zero-gravity environment. Much of her work was little known, classified as top secret. Her design for lapel pins shown at the 1973 Aerosalons exhibition became the official emblem for the Apollo–Soyuz Test Project.
