Fumihiko Maki

Born in Tokyo in 1928, Fumihiko Maki holds degrees from the University of Tokyo, Cranbrook Academy of Art, and Harvard Graduate School of Design. He worked for numerous offices before establishing Maki and Associates in 1965. An adherent of modernism, he seeks to unite architecture and people’s varied imaginations. Large-scale projects include Makuhari Messe, 4 World Trade Center, and infrastructure for the Aga Khan Foundation. He has taught at universities around the world. His awards include the 1993 Pritzker Prize for the fusion of eastern and western cultures, and the 2011 Gold Medal from the AIA American Institute of Architects.
