Readers will wonder about the actual topic of this book. Let us not forget that these days seemed eternal, and also that the immensity of imagined scenarios was overwhelming. Observation was our best analysis, and sometimes we were moved by the need for anticipation. While being aware that our predictions were limited to the present moment, and that this moment could generate only fictions, over 40 consecutive days, the conversations attempted to consider the effects of the pandemic. Because of this, these transcriptions would preserve history through the collective and individual stories, dramatic or utopian events, which mimic the past or break from the past, revealing new possibilities or fossilized perspectives. These are 40 colloquial conversations, which reveal visions in the context of this period and at the same time, convey images that explain other ways of observing, interpreting, explaining, responding, transforming and dissolving the reality of that present.
40 Days is a book that gathers the forty conversations from home, with architects, educators and curators.
The book launch consists of a talk with José Mateus, Ana Tostões and Andreia Garcia.
Perhaps it was the eagerness for answers to the unknown that inspired the beginning of these conversations, but what remains of these testimonies is the history written at that time.
